ORIENTATION To Begin With the MISJ BASIC PROGRAM

UNIT 3-7 The Romanization System Used in the MISJ

[ga][gi][gu][ge][go] can be pronounced in two ways. When they appear at the beginning of words, they are pronounced with a hard [g] sound like the English [g] in "garden". Otherwise, pronounce with a nasal sound like the [ng] in "singer" or "king".

See if you can hear the difference of the pronunciations of each combination.
[ginkoo] & [kagi]       [galasu] & [kagami]

The sound difference does not effect the meaning of words and not all Japanese people use both pronunciations.
So don't worry if you cannot hear the difference.

Next, let me explain about the Japanese accent.
