UNIT 3-3 Japanese Human Relationships

Human relationships have a big effect on Japanese conversations. Because vocabulary and expressions should be carefully chosen according to whom you are talking to or whom you are talking about.

There are two key points to check the relationship between the speaker and the counterpart. First point is:

                  Age & Status

Because of the importance of seniority in Japan, “status” is usually proportional to a person's “age”. The concepts are explained with the words “ELDER”, “SUPERIOR”, “YOUNGER”, and “INFERIOR” in the MISJ programs.
